Seville, The Sunny City

Spain is one of the favourite holiday destinations in Europe and no wonder! With sun, sand and cerveca, the country is a great place in the summer and is even warm the rest of the year too.

After a few trips, however, the usual holiday resorts can become a little bit boring. That makes a city break in Spain a great idea for catching some sun and relaxation, but without getting bored after a few days. Barcelona and Madrid are the most popular locations, but a hidden gem of Spain that is definitely worth a visit is Seville.

The southern Spanish city is located on the banks of the Guadalquivir River and has plenty to do in terms of history, culture and don’t forget the great cuisine!

You’ll get a sense of the “true” Spain in Seville with the two traditions of bullfighting and flamenco both having a huge presence in the city. Seville was actually the birthplace of flamenco and you simply cannot leave Spain without having been to see a show! Bullfighting is just as important in the city and the city’s bullring, called Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza is the oldest bullring in Spain and nowadays still one of the most important – only Madrid’s Las Ventas bullring is more important in the world of Spanish bullfighting.

You can explore these two traditions during your days in the city and then at night discover the tradition of tapas! Tapas are the name given to the little dishes of food that you’ll often find in Spanish restaurants. Each plate of tapas is not a meal in itself, but rather one thing of many that is to be shared between the people at the table. Trying a bit of this and a bit of that is the Spanish way of dining and makes a lot of sense when you think about it.

The Guadalquivir River passes through the city and it is possible to, and recommended to, take a leisurely boat trip down the river and see Seville from a different angle. You’ll be able to see the city’s impressive architecture from a whole new perspective if seeing it from a boat.

Convinced? If you like the sound of Seville then go ahead and start preparing for your trip. The city is beautiful all year round and obviously that includes summer. Be careful though as the place can get exceptionally hot over the summer months, making a spring or autumn break two other options worth considering. If you’re looking for some accommodation for your stay, then know that GoWithOh.com have apartments in the city worth checking out. An apartment will give you the freedom to explore Seville how and when you want to!
