Preparing for the Ultimate Summer Break: Finding the Best Hotels in Top Destinations

What’s the most important aspect of your holiday? It might be your transportation, meaning you prefer to travel in style and seek out the most comfortable transport options. It could be the distance from and cleanliness of the nearest beach, suggesting you won’t be moving off your sun-lounger for the duration of your time away.

Crete

Crete

For many of us, the top priority is our accommodation. After all, it’s got to be a home away from home, a place where we feel happy enough to unpack our belongings and go to sleep every night. And that’s why a hotel can either make or break a holiday.

As a result, we’ve put together a quick guide to the best hotels for a sunshine break. You can follow this link to book your next summer getaway in the accommodation that most appeals to you.

Crete

The Greek island of Crete is a fantastic tourist destination, combining all  the sun, sea, sand and ouzo we’d expect from a Mediterranean hotspot. Stay at the five-star Sissi Bay Hotel and you’re guaranteed a wonderful break. Situated right on the coast with the sandy Boufos beach just a stone’s throw away, the hotel is perfect for sun-worshippers. You can dine in the onsite buffet restaurant or enjoy a short stroll into the village centre to eat at one of the local tavernas. Sissi Bay boasts four pools if you get tired of the salt water and barstaff will serve you chilled cocktails as you soak up the sun.

It also offers a spa with all sorts of relaxing treatments, so book yourself in for a massage or pampering session. Once fully unwound, take out your clubs on the hotel golf course or play a round of tennis on the courts.

Portugal

The Algarve is mainland Portugal’s most southern region and as a result it boasts highs of 30C+ in the summer months along with azure-blue waters lapping its coast. Stay at the Jupiter hotel in Praia da Rocha where you can enjoy sea views from your modern room. A lovely big swimming pool and sun terrace await you on arrival, but if you prefer to hit the beach you can skip across the road and be there immediately. Stick around the hotel in the evening for the full entertainment programme or else go off to explore the main Tomás Cabreira strip in the resort for restaurants, bars and shops that stay open long into the night.

Spain

The Costa del Sol – or sunshine coast – is an ideal holiday destination for those wanting to work on their tans. Book your stay at the Hotel Reymar in Santa Susanna – while the nearest beach is shingly, there’s a great pool and sun deck if you want to relax. At night, the resort comes alive with various street entertainment on the promenade as well as restaurants and bars full of merry locals and tourists. The hotel has a friendly atmosphere and the welcome desk staff are always available to help. The only downfall is the cost of taxi transfers to the airport – which can reach £234 for a return journey, although there is a shuttle bus available at the lower price of £78 for a return.
